flowery angst

Wah!  I apologize for my absence, it’s been a busy time filled with exams, newpaper-editing, ballet rehearsals, stressing out, aaaaaaaand beautiful sunshine.  It’s been absolutely gorgeous here recently and it’s only making school harder to deal with.  BUT, only 26 more days to go!  Just gotta belieeeeeeve in myself ~*~*~

First things first, Best Coast’s NEW ALBUM  “The Only Place” IS OUT!!!  It debuted this past Tuesday, and oh man, it was like Christmas for me.  Why can’t I be you, Bethany Cosentino 😥  More summer vibes to tempt me with.

A spinach-peach-pear smoothie from my favorite coffee shop, a PERFECT rose that I encountered on a walk home from school, the view from my living room, and my Yogaville (the yoga retreat I went to with my mama last weekend) sticker.  The bottom two pictures were taken at Yogaville!  Isn’t it just so mystically stunning??  I MEDITATED inside that shit!  Soooo rad.

My favorite misfit, Morrissey.  Is it weird that he reminds me of my dad?
There are a lot of things I love about him, but there are a lot of Morrissey moments where I’m like, wait… did he just say that?  His extreme sensitivity and underlying insecurity is very interesting to me, and his music intrigues me even more.  Listen to just about any Smiths song (you could probably like, close your eyes, spin in a circle, flail your arms in one direction and randomly point to a song) and you’ll hear a sweet happy tune.  But listen to the lyrics, and you’ll hear some depressing stuff, my friend.  What a character.  I ♥ him.

a fraction of my bucket list

…CREATE A TREEHOUSE.

Just look at how badass these are!  I am in need of one.  I will build one and make it the happiest place on earth and never venture outside of it.  I will read countless novels and listen to an unimaginable amount of Fleet Foxes (because I always feel like I should be standing on a mountain when I listen to them, nawmsayin’?).

In other news, I have major spring fever.

Pastels, eyelet, maxi-dresses/skirts, wedges, and soft denim.  Mmmmm I want it ALL.  Too bad all the money my mom will ever spend on me for the next year is going towards my Boston Ballet Summer Program ehe.  I should get a job…

P.S. If I ever hear “Swim” by Surfer Blood on another 8tracks playlist I’M GOING TO DO SOMETHING VERY, VERY BAD.  I almost spilled my coffee this morning trying to skip it so quickly.  I’ve already heard it like, four times today.  Killin’ my vibes.

BEST COAST

My Utmost Appreciation List (why Best Coast rawkz):

1. Bethany Cosentino is my soul sister and/or fairy godmother.  Her style, her attitude, her vegan-ness, her appreciation for teenage angst, her love for California.  She is just all around a total babe that I fucking adore.  She’s the type of person I want to chill with during the wee hours of the morning and gush to each other about life’s deepest, darkest secrets.  Uhg.

2.  Their “Crazy For You” music video features CATS directing the video, complete with lolz and kitteh subtitles.  After watching it, you will need no further explanation for their all-around music holiness.  But for the lazier readers, let’s move on.

3. Bethany and Bobb make great, great, great, amazing, wonderful music.  The lyrics are simple yet raw, and their surf-pop sound is catchy and FUN and makes me want to leave for CALIFORNIA!  Which brings me to my next point:

4.  I give them major brownie points for being so Cali-loving.  I happen to adore California (and dream of living in San Francisco literally every day of my life), so I get their admirable vibes.  It truly is the best coast (aha!).

5.  Their twitters are the bomb.  Bobb, who unfortunately has become pretty damn inactive in the tweeting world, only twitpic-ed food, and it was a good time.  Bethany never fails to inform me with the completely unnecessary (but that makes it completely necessary).  Yay for the internet.

6.  Bethany is coming out with a line for Urban Outfitters!  My two favorite things FUCK YEAHhHHhHhHh man!

7.  I know I already brought up lyrics, but here I go again.  Best Coast songs usually do not consist of more than 5 repeating lines, but they pull it off well, unlike The Black Eyed Peas.  And they’re exceptionally… genuine.  Straight out of a teenage girl’s diary — and that’s what makes them so great.

There’s nothing worse than sitting all alone at home / and waitin waitin waitin waitin waitin by the phone / I hope that he’s home / waitin by his phone / I wonder if he knows that I want him

The world is lazy / But you and me / We’re just crazy / So when I’m with you / I have fun / Yeah when I’m with you / I have fun

8.  Their latest music video, “Our Deal” was directed by Drew Barrymore and was absolutely brilliant.  It also made me weep buckets, but then again, you’re looking at the girl who cried watching High School Musical 3.

9.  THEIR NEW SINGLE IS SO PERFECT GO LISTEN NOW.  And then become Best Coast addicted, listen to all of their (1) albums and then fall in love, because they’re Best Coast and they do that to people like us.

10.  In conclusion, Best Coast is wonderful because they’re hip, talented, hilarious, stylish, awesome, sane, and put cats in their videos.  You should love them too.
